OverviewI am a user experience designer and strategist and thrive in solving difficult problems that combine humans, technology, and business. I bring a long and successful career in user experience design to clients seeking to grow customer relationships in the digital space. I wholly engage an inclusive design methodology to ensure that I first understand the nature of the problem to be solved, and do so honoring the personhood of the users who will engage the solution. How I WorkThe art and science of user experience design lies in aligning content and functionality to support the tasks my clients are attempting to enable for their customers. Doing so requires data, both qualitative and quantitative. Using one data category without the other fails to offer the right insights that drive solutions. In a recent project, my client felt that the high bounce rate from the home page was because users couldn’t find the right link. Research and analytics told a different story: Based on session duration and traffic from the home page that users were instead having trouble locating the right content. After viewing user-session recordings, I realized that we were missing the right call to action. It was buried in redundant content that offered too many user choices rather than too few. The revised home page drove a 56% increase in conversion. Prior to joining the University of Denver, I taught at the University of Colorado, Boulder, for ten years teaching courses in user experience design, social innovation, and content strategy. We’re also volunteers at Metro Caring in Denver, an anti-hunger organization that provides meals for resource-challenged members of our community.
