On the forecasting bench providing weather forecasts and insight for clients across a number of industries, including the roads, utilities and energy industries, on a shift basis to cover the 24/7. The media and broadcasting space is another group of clientele, with our contract with the BBC being the foremost of these. Across all of the BBC's broadcasting platforms, we produced weather forecast scripts for broadcast, we provide weather insight and information for editors and correspondents, and we support the BBC's national and regional weather presenters with their presenting duties.

Working within a team of 24/7 shift weather forecasters to provide client-specific weather information and support services, to a diverse weather-critical client base, particularly to the transportation and energy industries. This ensures that UK roads are gritted appropriately and timely; ensures Britain’s railways run as safely and efficiently as possible; and allows energy traders and managers to stay informed on the impact of weather on their trades and operations.

I worked alongside data scientists to build artificial intelligence-driven forecast models for energy markets. Variable weather has huge effects on power generation and electricity consumption, becoming increasingly more impacting with the rise in renewable energy systems. It is therefore essential to integrate accurate weather information into the forecast models. I also delivered forecasts around-the-clock to several energy entities, ranging from solar asset owners to national grid operators.

Under the guidance of Dr. Richard Pope and with use of the IDL programming language, I investigated the influence of synoptic meteorology on UK air quality, mainly through analysis of the UK’s automatic urban and rural network (AURN) of pollution observational data and output from the AQUM model (Air Quality in the Unified Model), over the 2000-2011 period. My analysis highlighted the dominant effect wind direction has on UK air quality.
