Founder And Chief Engineer
CurrentI design consumer electronics for use in education. Focus on imaging and robotics. Write all firmware and application software for all projects. Design electronics and image processing algorithms. Manage manufacturers, vendors, contractors, and staff. Here are some key projects I have developed:Vizy AI CameraSimple-to-use, Raspberry Pi-based, interactive camera for AI, scientific, and computer vision applications. Web-browser accessible, programmable in Python without knowledge of JavaScript, CSS, or HTML. Hired and led engineering team, designed/developed product including several applications that leverage convolutional neural-networks (CNNs). Raised $179K initial capital through Kickstarter.•Product received a 9/10 rating from MagPi Magazine. Pixy CameraFilled market gap with low-cost, simple-to-use camera. Works with Arduino and other microcontrollers to detect objects. Raised $274K initial capital through Kickstarter. Pixy is the highest selling vision system in marketplace at >100K units sold. •Image processing at 60+ frames-per-second. •Developed code that efficiently divides processing between an ARM Cortex M0 and Cortex M4 core. •Winner of several competitions. Featured on the Ben Heck Show.VEX Vision SensorCustom contract with educational robotics OEM, Innovation First. •Wrote object detection firmware and JPEG compression code to stream video from camera to a web browser at 20 frames per second over built-in Wi-Fi controller. Telepresence Robotics Kit (TeRK) Robot Controller (Qwerk) Partnership with the Carnegie Mellon CREATE Lab. ARM-based Linux controller with an FPGA-based multi-axis motor controller.•Designed a closed-loop motor controller using Back-EMF voltage instead of encoders for motion feedback. Patent US7166980B1.Xport and Xport Botball Controller•Reverse-engineered Gameboy proprietary cartridge port to develop custom robot controller that includes FPGA-based vision system and multi-axis motor controller.
