He achieved for d3o 12 TV appearances (CNN, Discovery Channel, CNBC, BBC, FUJI, Nippon, ITV) and over 300 press articles per year (FT, NY Times, The Week, Guardian, Time magazine, Independent, Telegraph, Asia Business Weekly, GQ, FHM, Wired Magazine) This led to significant incoming enquiries for strategic market development, achieving sales growth of approximately 100% year on year with minimum marketing budget. d3o has been adopted by a large number of sports brands (Puma, The North Face, Scott, Head, Burton, CAT, Spyder, and many more) in products ranging from footballs, ski race suits, and even ballet shoes it is patented and sold in over 50 countries. The brand & trademark has been an integral part of the marketing strategy, and is now a well recognised consumer name in impact protection, and continues to attract customers in a wide variety of applications from sports, to electronics and military. Richard recruited and groomed a replacement CEO Stuart Sawyer initially as a consultant to lead the company, and remained a director; wishing to focus on new challenges as the company was established with a coherent strategy, brand and customer base. To take d3o from the Laboratory to the position it is today Richard raised significant finance, from Europe and the US, and sold his own house to help fund the business in the early days.

The projects utilised the resources of the polymer development department in Geneva, and the design department in UK to offer new solutions (e.g. car radiators).
