I was born in the North East of England and grew up in Newcastle upon Tyne. From an early age I was forever taking toys apart and rebuilding or repairing them. I didn't always succeed in getting them back together though those failures and the lessons learned ensured success with the later attempts. With guidance from my father this progressed to taking cars apart and reassembling them. As computers became more widely available I started tinkering with them and from there formed a lifelong passion for technology and engineering.A conversation with a Cable TV Installer in 1997 led me to apply for a cable TV installer role with Telewest Communications and that was the start of my journey within the telecoms industry. Having worked through various engineering roles within the business, honing my analytical and problem solving skills along with the ability to quickly build meaningful connections with those I interacted with I then moved into management along with a house move to East Yorkshire.Initially taking on a large struggling team of engineers I worked closely with them to understand their challenges and used my experience and contacts across the business to turn them around into a highly engaged high performing team. Behind the scenes I developed my skills in performance management and people development to ensure my team remained at the top of their game, I completed a diploma in Management and Leadership in 2019 which helped greatly with my presentation skills, project management and budget management. I have been heavily involved in recruitment, assessment centres and onboarding within my role over the last 10 years bringing the best candidates into the business and developing them into the best engineers they can be.I am best known amongst my co-workers for being approachable, empathetic and passionate about my people. I am very data driven and enjoy taking raw data, analysing it and producing easy to use reports / dashboards to help everyone get the most from it in quick and easy formats.Away from work my passion for technology continues with home automation and home cinema at the forefront and I enjoy staying abreast of the latest tech through membership of various internet forums and groups.
