Rich Alonso has years of environmental law experience and is an expert in Clean Air Act issues. He currently manages the US environmental department at Cenovus energy where he oversees all US environmental staff at three refineries in the US and is engaged in the environmental programs at two joint venture refineries. Refineries are complex operations that our intensely regulated by federal, state, and local governments and Rich leads all interactions with the regulators in permitting, compliance reporting and enforcement matters. He is responsible for the development and implementation of Environmental Management Systems at Cenovus' US refineries and provides input on risks and solutions to executive senior company management. While in private practice in Washington, DC, he advised clients on environmental, permitting, compliance and enforcement issues before federal and state agencies. Rich’s clients included manufacturers and energy companies, as well as large trade associations in environmental compliance and enforcement matters before both state and federal agencies.
