Controlstar Systems provided Monitoring, Control and Asset Management solutions to the utilities industry. The main software products include a SCADA system (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and a Computer-aided design application called Fusion. Both of these are written in Java to allow for cross-operating system operabililty. I joined Controlstar Systems in June 2005 after graduation from University, initially as a trainee Software Engineer. I progressed quickly to a level where I was the lead Software Engineer. While working at Controlstar Systems my experience has included: • Contributing to the full software development lifecycle, including detailed design, coding and testing of newly developed software in Java and C++. • Development of control and monitoring device firmware. • Liaising with clients and providing full support for the software. • Involvement in acquiring new business, in the form of presenting and demonstrating to potential clients. • Creation of the company website, and the development of a new web-based “Micro-SCADA” using Java Servlet technology. • Leading a small software team in development work. • Full development of bespoke systems to meet the client requirements, including producing Function Design Specification and Acceptance Testing documentation.
