Richard Bamforth is a highly experienced commercial disputes lawyer . In his 25 year career, he has represented clients in international arbitration and commercial litigation and across a wide range of sectors spanning all the major jurisdictions. Richard headed the 24 partner international litigation group at Olswang between 2010 and 2015. His primary focus is now the resolution of complex cross border disputes in the media, finance, energy and telecommunications sectors. He is currently also acting for clients in the technology, real estate, pharmaceutical, manufacturing and commodities spheres as well as for high net worth individuals.Richard regularly advises clients in bringing and defending claims for breach of contract, shareholder and corporate disputes, debt claims and asset tracing. His most recent cases include representing a Middle Eastern conglomerate in a number of high value pieces of High Court litigation and international arbitrations against financial institutions and business counterparties; representing a Central European based shareholder in a joint venture dispute before the Courts of an offshore jurisdiction over rights of access to information; representing a pharmaceutical company in High Court proceedings brought by a contractual counterparty over the development and sale of a product and representing a provider of online retail services in an ICC arbitration brought against it following its acquisition of a European business. Richard sits as an arbitrator, appointed by parties and the arbitral institutions and is accredited as a mediator by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR). He regularly writes about and speaks on topics of current interest in the international arbitration world.
