I’m a journalist. I chose journalism initially because I was curious about the world and loved to write. I think it's a noble calling because telling stories that help others make sense of the world is one of the hardest and most valuable things a person can do.Eventually I wound up editing stories on the complicated stuff: credit-default swaps, CLOs, ABS, CMBS, rate swaps, structured notes, etc. I enjoy learning about things like how leveraged decay erodes returns on 3x exchange-traded notes. Complexity is a puzzle to be solved, and I love puzzles. My management style is to be more coach than manager. Managers tell people what to do from on high; coaches develop people and get them involved and invested in what they’re doing. When I’m not working, I’m often cycling (100 miles or so on weekends) or playing my guitar.Specialties:* Editing, writing, proofreading* Digital journalism* Team leadership (I've managed freelancers and teams of reporters)* Excel charting (I've written programs in VBA to automate Excel tasks and improve efficiency)* Readership improvement
