I worked as a community psychiatrist in a public sector adult community mental health team for many years, and in the fields of psychiatry/mental health/psychotherapy since 1990. I have additional formal training in psychodynamic psychotherapy (The Conversational Model of Psychotherapy) and I also have experience as a Clinical Director. I am most interested in the adult sequelae of childhood trauma, in the context of people presenting with severe mental illness, and I see myself as an advocate of Trauma-informed Care and Practice. In 2019, with co-editors Joan Haliburn and Serena King, we published Australia's first ever multi-author textbook on the topic, "Humanising Mental Health Care in Australia: A Guide to Trauma-informed Approaches" (Routledge). I currently teach and advocate in a number of areas, including Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Trauma-informed Care and Practice, and the preservation and sensitive interpretation of Mental Health related heritage.
