About Richard (Bill) Cody

Rich (AKA "Bill") Cody served 30 years active duty in the the U.S. Marine Corps. A 'Mustang', he enlisted in 1955, was promoted to sergeant in 1959, was commissioned as a 2nd Lt in 1962, and finally retired as LtCol in 1985. He served in all three regular Marine Divisions during his career. He had two combat tours in Vietnam 1965-66 (senior advisor to a Vietnamese Infantry Battalion) and 1968 (rifle company commander of A/1/5, 1st Marine Division). Personal awards include the Silver Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal (with V), Meritorious Service Medal, Purple Heart Medal (with Gold Star) for being twice wounded in combat, and Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal (with Bronze Star) for seven years service as an enlisted Marine.After retiring from the Marines he went back to school and has been working in the IT profession since, sometimes as a project manager and at others as a senior software engineer. He's a member of several military veterans organizations, a member of the Fort Hentry Guard Association of Canada, and a volunteer guide (DOCENT) at the Marine Corps Museum.He is a military history buff and applies his knowledge and skills primarily as an artist. His published lithographs include the popular "HAPPY HOUR", "DREADNAUGHT LEATHERNECKS", and "BEFORE THE STORM". His work also appears in many military history books and magazines. Some of the books in which his battle and campaign maps appear are "GUNNERY SERGEANT PARADIS - Biography of a WW I Marine" by LtCol Pete Owen, "THE END GAME - The Iraq War" by LtGen Bernard Trainor, and "OPERATION PHANTOM FURY - The Battle of Fallujah" by Col Dick Camp. He is also a frequent contributor to the LEATHERNECK Magazine published by the Marine Corps Association.
