About Richard Bird
I have worked as a technology professional over the last 17 years in the Banking, Oil and Gas, Telecommunications, and Healthcare industries. The one constant throughout my career has been working with data; sourcing it, transforming it, presenting it. This progression began with developing my final project in University; a command line interface, database management system, with insert, update, and delete capabilities, supported by B+ Tree indexing; to transforming Oil and Gas Financial Accounting data using SQL and Pro*C; to using Datastage to transform Telecom switch data; to using PowerCenter to transform pharmacy Point of Sale data; to using PowerCenter to transform Clickstream data in near real time. This has positioned me to grapple with the details of data and data structures to the point of first picturing how an application should tackle a problem and then basing the solution on that vision.Today we are realizing that by increasing the amount of data we can analyze at one time, our ability to visualize what is going on (trends and patterns in the data) also increases. Like seeing ‘The Forest for the Trees’. Throughout my career, I have made it a point to see the detail in my work and in the people I work with. By paying attention to and working with those details, I have been able to produce high quality results and in the latter part of my career engage and lead others to do the same.
