About Richard Bischoff

My research is in the area of mental health care disparities. I am conducting research in rural Nebraska to determine the effectiveness of an innovative approach to overcoming mental health care disparities that integrates community capacity building, collaborative care, and telemental health. My research team is initiating a project to test the effectiveness of this model in Brazil.

    I am currently the Chair of the Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. This is a department consisting of 24 full-time faculty, 7 staff members, and over 25 graduate assistants. The department maintains an early childhood education laboratory school (Ruth Staples Child Development Lab), a couple and family therapy clinic, and several research laboratories. Nearly $2 million in grants a year supports faculty research, outreach/extension, and teaching. The department has 6 undergraduate programs, 8 master's degree programs, and two doctoral specializations. Approximately 700 students at the undergraduate and graduate level are completing academic programs within the department. We are assertively pursuing initiatives that are increasing our impact throughout Nebraska and around the world.
