Richard was born and raised in Winston-Salem, NC. After graduating from The University of Georgia in 1985, the proud Bulldog took a job as a manager trainee with his family’s garage door business, Amarr.He spent 4 years in the field working at Amarr Door centers in Nashville, TN and Riviera Beach, FL, and then building and running a wood door plant in Birmingham, AL.He returned to Winston-Salem in 1990 and started Amarr’s Marketing Department, then took on a VP of Sales role, became Executive VP in 1992, President in 1993, and CEO in 2002. With sales over $300 million and 1500 Team Members and two manufacturing plants and over 80 door centers, the company was sold to ASSA ABLOY in 2013 and Richard became its Vice-Chairman. He left the firm in 2017.Not one to rest, Richard became a partner and CEO of Image Wizards, the inventors of metal prints for photography, digital images and signage. Image Wizards makes their stunning metal prints for businesses ranging from the Green Bay Packers (stadium suites), Jimmy Johns (decore), Medical Centers (signage), and hospitality. In January of 2021, Image Wizards rebranded as Vivid Metal Prints. Richard sold Vivid in February of 2024.Currently, Richard helps entrepreneurs and business leaders solve pressing issues.
