I was responsible for overseeing the development of 630 member Students’ Union within the Membership Development Directorate, working with them to develop their Governance, participation and member engagement. I oversaw NUS’ training programme which is delivered to over 700 students and engage with external partners such as the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG). • Leading change in the culture of our member Students’ Unions approach to campaigning and connecting them to their members. This saw an increase in membership participation and student action on campuses.• Re-developed NUS’ organisational and Governance structure, and embedded that change across our entire movement. Leading to better performance and financial management and greater democratic participation.• Brought in over £300,000 worth of funding for work on the Olympics on engaging students in the Olympiad. I also sat on the University Board of Governors.• I increased the Students’ Union annual income from the University by over £20,000 allowing us to recruit extra staff that were able to work with students based at our other campuses, and increase recognition of our Students’ Union• Led a successful campaign, which included over 2000 students engaged, in support of lecturers pay.• Designed and delivered the first ever Course Reps training course which developed over 200 volunteers to be able to better represent students on their courses, this led to multiple victories across the year including enhanced feedback for several courses.• Worked with the local Council to highlight the benefit of students in the Community that led to the development of an accredited landlords scheme.
