As an integral part of the Local Leadership Team, Clinical Team Managers will provide clinical support, supervision and leadership to staff within a dedicated team in their respective operating environment.When undertaking front line clinical shifts (which are an intrinsic part of the role) the post holder will be required to undertake physical assessment and the formulation of plausible differential diagnoses, treatment plans and the appropriate movement of patients in and out of hospital in emergency and non-emergency situations across a wide range of patient groups and in a wide range of different settings.

After returning to the NHS in 2016, I was upset to see how many good people were leaving or off work with 'stress'. I recollected on my own experiences and drew comparisons to how I had felt a few years ago. I learnt about Compassion Fatigue and the effects that it has on the individual, their family and their colleagues. I qualified as a Compassion Fatigue Professional with the IATP in 2017. In addition to teaching Compassion Fatigue, I also teach first aid, pre-hospital care and lifeguarding courses

I started TBS Training whilst running The Big Splash School of Swimming, it was initially for teaching of First Aid and Lifeguarding (affiliated to the RLSS, STA, SPA & NUCO) I then added AED and specific courses such as Cricket Coach, Childminder and Ice Rink aid. I am the staff trainer for the DeVere Group in the South East of England and have been since May 2001. I regularly teach and assess First Aid and Lifeguard courses and have recently taken on the role of mentor for newly qualified FAW & NPLQ trainers, working closely with Future Train and the London Development Agency. Since September 2008 I have started training the security/customer services advisors at the O2 arena in defibrillation and site specific first aid.

As my contract in Abu Dhabi concluded I looked for a new exciting career. My new position is Emergency Care Practitioner in the Urgent Care Department at the Princess Royal University Hospital in Farnborough Kent. My job role includes working within my own sphere of competence and limit of practice, to assess patients, order and interpret investigations, diagnose and treat patients who wish to be seen by an Emergency Nurse/Care Practitioner without reference to a Doctor. I am responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision, and to teach other nursing and non-nursing staff. To take charge of the clinical area as required. My clinical duties and responsibilities include ensuring that patients receive high quality clinical care including medical diagnosis, effective discharge planning and health promotion is carried out. The quality and continuity of patient care to ensure standards is met with accurate documentation. I have professional links to establish and maintain effective communication with nursing, medical and paramedical colleagues to provide optimum patient care and to participate in nursing audit, taking action to address improvements required. My managerial responsibilities include the participation in the recruitment and orientation of new staff. To act as a mentor for senior nurses (and other appropriate clinical staff) and provide support for mentee’s through regular feedback. To take appropriate action in managing incidents relating to violence/aggression within the department. To participate in the investigation of Adverse Incidents and Complaints. I have responsibilities with regard to education and research. I have an active teaching role and act as practice supervisor for nursing staff and students. I work here as a First Aid consultant and Lifeguard trainer and assessor.When the Future Train initiative was running, I was the moderator, assessor and mentor for the First Aid program.

Trainer assessor for the full suite of lifesaving, lifeguarding and first aid qualifications.I was approached by the RLSS to help develop the new 8th edition because of my passion for defibrillation in public places. Whilst working with the team I highlighted changes in spinal injury management and was soon working with the RLSS and Ferno to develop a new aquatic board. The new pool extraction board is in production and being sold to leisure pool operators across Europe

I was employed as the Training Manager for Medicare EMS whose portfolio included The O2 arena, Arena Leisure covering horse racing nationally. As a paramedic for these blue chip companies standards were expected to be at the highest level. I was responsible for delivering training to all grades of staff and ensuring their clinical competence. I wrote a comprehensive set of Standard and Emergency Operating Procedures. I was involved with the local management teams and at the O2 the link between the Medicare, the LAS, the O2 and LOCOG with the Olympic Games organisation. My experience with events is far reaching and I have covered numerous concerts, film and TV events. I had responsibility at the O2 for the world gymnastics and LTA tennis events as well as working on film sets such as James Bond/National Treasure and on TV sets such as EastEnders. I also have experience with motorsport working track-side medic at Brands Hatch Racing Circuit and at the British Supercross finals.

In June 2014 I was lucky to be offered a position at National Ambulance in Abu Dhabi and relocated with my family in August 2014. My current position is Paramedic Team Leader at Abu Dhabi International Airport. I work at the both the existing airport with responsibility for my team and clinical responsibility for the staff, passengers, airline and stakeholders and in addition at the Midfield Terminal construction project. Prior to my appointment at the airport I was contracted to the Abu Dhabi Police. In moving to the UAE and Abu Dhabi I have learnt about private business, different cultures, religion and communication. I am learning Arabic to assist with my communication. As a front line paramedic in the UAE I have undergone an unprecedented learning curve and been exposed to extremes of work.In contrast whilst I worked for London Ambulance Services as a Paramedic (ECP) Clinical Team Leader the work load was higher but the clinical exposure and challenges with communication was less. In the UK I was also the Training Manager for Medicare-EMS (http://www.medicare-ems.co.uk) who provides quality health care to a range of blue chip clients. I was part of the Institute for Qualified Lifeguards programme development team and was a clinical advisor for the RLSS NPLQ 8th edition and part of the development team for the new pool extraction board in partnership with Ferno.Finally I have over 30 years’ experience teaching Swimming, First Aid and Lifeguarding (qualified to CTLLS) and was the clinical auditor and HSE Quality Assurance manager for London Leisure College.

I qualified as an IHCD Emergency Medical Technical when I passed my Millers exam in July 2004, I qualified as an IHCD State Registered Paramedic in December 2006 and was promoted to Clinical Team Leader in July 2010. I was a clinical team leader (CTL) in Peckham, a very diverse area, and trauma here was mainly from assault or alcohol related. I was a Practice Placement Mentor for university and apprentice paramedic students, as well as existing paramedics as part of their annual continuing professional development. I was seconded to the Emergency Preparedness Department where I was a founder member of the team responsible for London’s response to any major incident from terrorism to civil disturbance. I successfully completed the City University 12 Lead Course in April 2008 and in July 2012 I graduated from Hertfordshire University with a BSc (Hons) in Paramedic Science and Emergency Care Practice. I am fully committed to pre-hospital care and want to be the best practitioner I can be. I pride myself on always treating people to the best of my ability. Lifeguards at Greens were initially trained under the STA program but after a review of the operating procedures we swapped to the RLSS. As the sole trainer for the club, I had overall responsibility for the lifeguards and would directly to the GM.

I was very proud to be elected Chairman to local swimming club. I was only in post for one year as I accepted the role in the UAE. We achieved a lot in the year I was in post, Swim 21, a new website, a club restructure and the club's first ever open meet.
