Provided research and infrastructure support for an ongoing, long-term ecological research project that analyzed the impacts of exurbanization and climate change on water quality, water quantity, and other ecosystem services in Southern Appalachia.Managed the budget, purchasing, set up, installation, and maintenance of a regional network of 14 remote environmental sensor stations using a $250K grant from the NSF.Upgraded and expanded the regional sensor network while implementing automated data collection, documentation, and data product creation processes.Collected, analyzed, and processed near real-time data from the environmental sensor station network.Managed a database of 300 datasets using MS Excel, MS Access, and SQL Server.Created automated processes using MATLAB that performed date-time gap filling, QA/QC checks, error flagging, and metadata application and exported data as graphs and text files.Trained and supervised 7 Field and Data Technicians on environmental data management techniques and the operation, installation, and troubleshooting of dataloggers and sensors.Coordinated with the US Forest Service to negotiate and secure siting locations and data sharing agreements, while collaborating on joint research projects.Wrote a 41-page training guide instructing researchers on how to perform data management processes using MATLAB.Developed a set of best practices for site design and location, remote communication methods, QA/QC protocols, metadata management, and data curation for collecting environmental sensor data in collaboration with 15 multidisciplinary scientists.Developed 30-pages of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for sensor data management, configuring sensors and dataloggers, equipment maintenance, database management, and developing automated management processes.Troubleshot and resolved sensor and datalogger problems including battery failure, wiring issues, sensor failure, and human or animal interference.

Provided GIS, database, and information management support for hydrological and ecological research projects, including stream discharge, water chemistry, soil chemistry, precipitation, soil and air temperature, soil moisture content, solar radiation, wind speed and direction, turbidity, and conductivity. Expanded the research site's data inventory by 23 datasets and updated, documented, maintained project dataset metadata, and made data available to researchers on the project website. Created more than 300 GIS layers for research plots and sampling points from GPS data, government boundaries, elevation, roads, and hydrography for Southern Appalachia using ESRI ArcGIS.

Instructed undergraduate and graduate students in three weekly Environmental Geology and Hydrogeology labs with 25 students each.Taught environmental topics, such as water quality, drinking and waste water treatment systems, groundwater modeling, fate and transport of contaminants, analyzing pump test data, and how to investigate contaminated sites using hydrological, geological, and geochemical data.

Ensured state environmental regulation compliance for a seventeen-county district.Enforced the State of Georgia Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Erosion and Sedimentation Control Act, and National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Stormwater Permit.Developed compliance solutions and provided guidance for government agencies, including the GA Department of Transportation, the GA Forestry Commission, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and local city and county governments.Provided support, training, and education to business and property owners, engineers, and county and city government officials on environmental laws and regulations to ensure compliance.Conducted 141 NPDES permit site inspections and conducted 63 investigations of citizen complaints concerning permit violations, water pollution, state water encroachment, and stream vegetative buffer violations.
