Appointed as recruiter and interviewer for junior high school study abroad candidates. Responsible for creating interview criteria and questions, vetting candidates, providing feedback on the candidates’ performances to supervisors, and advising supervisors regarding which candidates exhibited interest and drive to improve. Provided helpful instruction on the English language and the skills required to master it to more than 1,000 students in local junior high and elementary schools. Led and organized cultural exchange sessions, directly supporting the JET Program’s mission. Coached multiple students for the annual district speech contest for 3 years (2017 - 2019; 2020-2021 cancelled due to COVID). This involved one-on-one coaching with the students on a daily basis. Promoted English language classes. Attended community events and performed other related activities. Authored and published more than 30 articles in local journals The journals were sent to every school for the students and staff to read.Interviewed and wrote articles about students returning from study abroad trips in Australia. Interview questions were written in both English and Japanese. The responses (majority in Japanese) were then translated into English.Collaborated with Japanese English teachers to develop new teaching strategies, customized lesson plans and engaging games/exercises.Collaborated with Japanese English teachers to develop a city-wide English curriculum for elementary school with a focus on communication exercises that will enable students to improve their speaking abilities.Appointed as the main translator for the 2021 city-wide English curriculum for elementary school 1st and 2nd grade (above). Translated and edited a total of 24 pages including detailed lesson plans for current and future ALTs to use when lesson-planning with Japanese homeroom teachers.
