As a panel member I work with colleagues to analyse funding applications from the charitable third sector and businesses with a social mission to develop sustainability and resilience through and beyond the coronavirus pandemic. Manchester Metropolitan University: Expert by Experience contributing to both undergraduate and post graduate social work education. The role involves interviewing applicants to social work courses, assessing student presentations and teaching student group.I also plan these activities with academic staff, review and evaluate the outcomes.

In my current role as a Director of Breakthrough UK Director it is my responsibility to actively contribute to the stated aims and objectives of the company and scrutinise the operation of the organisation to ensure that Breakthrough complies at all times with its Articles of Association, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.I have a particular interest in developing organisational strategy and policy and representing Breakthrough at strategic forums and events where I am able to promote the work of the organisation and promote the social model of disability.I approach my work in a manner that will safeguard the good name and values of Breakthrough UK and understand and can operate within the NOLAN principles. From 2009-12 I held a position on the local Strategic Governance & Delivery Board for ‘Right to Control’ a DWP pilot which operated in 7 areas of England. I was part of the Strategic Board that governed and scrutinised a the pilot in Manchester and three other local authorities in Greater Manchester.The Manchester Partnership Delivery Board was pivotal to the strategic development, financial planning and scrutiny and performance and risk management of the local pilot. RTC involved whole system change and approach to personal budgets. Transformational change within systems and culture were essential to support the delivery of the pilot. Public sector organisations pooling budgets and a cultural shift by staff to work in a co-productive and personalised way with service users – rather than as ‘passive recipients’ was key to the success of the pilot and where strategic leadership was key. I played a significant part in developing the transformational approaches and testing new ways of working across the partners and within individual organisations.

As a lived experience panel member I am part of a small working group.Helping to shape and develop a project on Personal Health Budgets for North Central London Integrated Care Board.Drawing on my lived experience of a direct payment/individual budget.Working with colleagues in a person centred way following the values and principles of coproduction we developed a procurement person and directory service providersduties and skills included the analysis of policy documents relating relating to the procurement process hopping colleague to ensure they were commensurate with the values of coproduction. This involved attending online teams meetings on a monthly basis taking part in a market events to raise awareness amongst service providers in the area covered by north central London integrated care Board. This involved collaborating with colleagues fellow board to develop and deliver a presentation relating to our lived experiences of the health and social care system and the potential of the individual budget direct payments et cetera this and health and social care budgets to empower and enable those with long-term health conditions and disabilities and family members have a good quality of life.We also received support to develop an understanding of the NHS procurement process. I along with colleagues was responsible for the analysis of bids by service providers to be placed in the directory

I am a lifetime member of the greater Manchester coalition of disabled people. Promoting the social model of disability in the past I have served on the organisations executive committee with a period as the organisations secretary helping to ensure that the organisation complied with this legal responsibilities as a companyensuring that the organisation adheres to its constitutionI also had responsibilities for promoting the organisation externally speaking events for the TUC disabled students committee and a number government sponsored events and social care and welfare reformscrutinised and approved funding applicationsco-authored the organisation's response to the government's Sayce review on access to workHave also commented on disability issues including welfare reform social care and disability hate crime and choose media outlets the written media television and radio for the BBC ITV Channel 4 the Guardian newspaper and the disability new service

CROWN PROSICUTION COUMMUNITY PANELI represent the views of disabled on the criminal justice system with a particular focus on discrimination and disability hate crime helping to improve support for victims and witnesses. To use my knowledge of the social model of disability and the experience to inform the CPS policy work employment and training programmes.

Trustee for DSA-QAG attends the quarterly board and joint associate member meetings. , Richard offers his views on a number of subjects which affect the organisation, for example, the review of financial budgets and organisational annual expenditure, new business policy and procedures, the annual quality assurance review and associated processes affecting DSA-QAG practitioners – Needs Assessment Centres and Assistive Technology Service Providers. Richard has educated stakeholders by providing his own experience and views of the obstacles affecting disabled students attending higher education establishments. And, has shared his life experience of the benefits of being a disabled student who has gone through the disabled students allowance system which has assisted with process improvements. Richard regularly inputs to the governance of the charity organisation and future projects when borne through to the final stages of implementation and launch.
