Business and Partnerships Manager in the School of Archaeological and Forensic Sciences. Supporting organisations to access our knowledge and capabilities building on recent significant successes including the award of the Queen's Anniversary Prize and £7.9m capital investment from the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

• The purpose of this role was to establish, maintain and grow effective relationships with local and regional businesses and other external stakeholders to support the development of the University of Bradford's activities in digital health and related academic fields, centered on the Digital Health Enterprise Zone (DHEZ). • The role entailed working alongside academic and support staff throughout the University to identify appropriate opportunities for collaboration with businesses and ensure that appropriate projects were brought forward for relevant funding including Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs).

• Responsible for leadership and management of the research grant support team within Research & Innovation Services (RaIS) to deliver a high quality service to academic colleagues in developing external partnerships and research grant funding. In February 2020 I took on additional responsibility for Managing the Business Partnerships function including KTP offer, continuing to increase our KTP numbers with four new awarded projects. • Responsible for supporting a portfolio of research activity across the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics from understanding the funding landscape, matching researchers to opportunities, forming internal and external collaboration, supporting high quality applications (specifically resource planning and peer review) and learning to inform data driven improvement. Training of academics in costing and pricing. Responsible for developing c.60 applications per year.

• Principal author of the approved University of Bradford QR GCRF Strategy and Plan worth approximately £1/2m over the period 18/19 to 20/21. Responsible for the ongoing management and monitoring exercise.• Championed a £20m Cultural Heritage Hub bid and coordinated the due-diligence, budgets, scope of work, and required letters from over 25 co-applicant research organisations and 22 project partners. This was the only cultural heritage bid to make it to the final stage, and although unsuccessful has led to new collaboration opportunities. Received a Faculty Award for recognition of my contribution.• Supporting a portfolio of research activity across the Life Science Faculty from understanding the funding landscape, matching researchers to opportunities, forming internal and external collaboration, supporting high quality applications (specifically resource planning and peer review) and learning to inform data driven improvement. Training of academics in costing and pricing, and winning grant funding. Responsible for developing c.150 applications per year.

• Project Manager for Wellcome Trust Affordable Healthcare in India Project and £1m+ MRC funded UK-India Centre for Advanced Technology for Minimising the indiscriminate use of Antibiotics (UKICAT-MA) in collaboration with LV Prasad Eye Institute, India, for Development of a rapid system for diagnosing corneal infections using pathogen-responsive polymers. Provided Project/Risk and Financial Management whilst co-ordinating requirements between the funder and partners. • Additionally advised on regulatory readiness/planning and advised on cGMP and ISO standardization towards trials and conformity pathways for CE Marking. This included creating User Requirement and Design Inputs, SOPs, Manufacturing Batch Records, Supplier and Raw Material Specifications, QC/Certificate of Analysis. This enabled biocompatibility trials to ISO10993 as a precursor to first in-man studies. Within one year the team undertook the first biocompatibility study.

• Provide Mentorship / Due-diligence to ACT or the Portfolio Companies of ACT Fund in areas of Medical and IVD Devices. ACT is a technology transfer focused Venture Capital fund.

• Founder of the company with the aspiration to develop life changing personal health monitoring products. Working alongside technology spin-outs domestically and internationally in areas of technical, regulatory, and business planning.• Public Engagement including working as client in a project with students at University of Bradford to engage more artists in science, developing links with the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) to give the project an international client and platform.• Experience and knowledge of small business startups including bookkeeping and accounts, R&D Tax Credits, PAYE, VAT, Corporation Tax Filings, and Annual Returns.

• CE Marking of the world’s first medical disposable MEMS strip for PT-INR measurements based on the development of an integrated polymer micro fluid-probe undertaken on my Doctorate. A key achievement was re-designing the microsensor to improve signal-to-noise (US8297110) leading to a successful evaluation at The Royal London Hospital to leverage Series A investment of £1.025m.• Interim Management (Sep’12 to Jul’13) in IVD Development of a PT-INR product. As manager I introduced control of experimental design and tracking of metrics. Within 4-months the team was able to bring the product to meet performance requirements.• Personally undertook investigations leading to significant reduction in imprecision (%CV) of a PT-INR assay from >15% towards 5%. Demonstrated the importance of sample interaction with dried reagent which led to IP on a monolithic sensor design (GB2499428) and deposition process improvement. Showed that improvements to the detection algorithm could further reduce imprecision up to 5%.• Co-author of 5 granted patent families with identification of inventive developments, reduction to practice, writing the application, and responding to the examination process. The generation of a strong IP portfolio for the company.• Investigation of dried reagent location, volume, coverage, method of deposition, drying and established understanding of clinical results with regards to formulation, solubility, sample volume, and portability. Additionally took responsibility for shelf life studies.• Established leak-test specification of packaging through an analytical model leading to optimisation of sealing temperature. Improved Polymerised Acrylic Acid plasma process for stable (+12m) hydrophilic coatings.• Developed instrumentation QC techniques to show accurate heating of temperature controller, and variability of front-end electronics that led to clustering of clinical results.

• Senior Scientist in the Central Microstructure Facility specifically in areas of polymer based microsensors for bioscience applications. Project Management and technical delivery for STFC in EU FP6 Project PRONANO to deliver a polymer based route for parallel probe arrays for metrology. The project involved planning and accounting of a significant budget (5 years €1.1m), coordination of research in a small team to deliver project goals, and elaboration of e-learning web courses for the dissemination and education work package. Upon undertaking the project I negotiated to subcontract a major fabrication task that had slipped by several months whilst working towards parallel deliverables. The decision reduced project costs, guaranteed quality, and eliminated the project delays. • Received proof of concept funding (£10k) for demonstration of a sensor for liver diagnostics at St Mary’s Hospital; CLASP research grant as co-applicant with University of Cambridge (£320k) for a polymer based chemical “artificial nose”; undertook a design project for Shimadzu Corporation for a MEMS actuator with positive feedback; recipient of internal funding (£20k) to outfit a MEMS test/demonstration area and fabricate polymer MEMS cantilevers.• Industrial Supervisor of an Engineering Doctorate student on “Microcantilever Biosensors”, who successfully graduated in 2014. • Received a letter of “outstanding future potential” under my professional review.
