My role has included building Pre-package plant rooms & installing them for New builds including apartment blocks ( largest 380 Apartments) , schools & hotels. I have also worked on several plant room refurbishments. The plant rooms have been built to floor plans in a workshop to replicate the onsite plant room. Plant room pipework manifolds and equipment are mounted onto bespoke metal frameworks (skids) for ease to transport to site and have been built in modular sections to include a Water Management skid with equipment such as Spirotech De-gasser and Spill/ Fill units and Enwa side filtration unit. A Boiler Manifold skids incorporating boiler shunt pumps and Y-Strainer and a District pump set skid. The plant rooms are built from Hydraulic drawings provided by the system designer for the project. Main manifold pipework is designed and made from stainless steel pipe work sections and welded together. All other final connections from main manifolds to plant equipment is achieved using Geberit Mappress system ranging from 15mm to 108mm and stainless steel BSP threaded fittings. These latter pipework installations and the on-site plant room installations to the buildings primary core pipework are designed by myself and a colleague without drawings but determined by making pipe routes efficient, symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The plant rooms heat source is usually provided by a couple of boilers (Strebel) and may also incorporate a CHP ( Indop) or a Air Source Heat pump.Other projects I have been involved in have been building temporary plant rooms & energy centres ( CHPs) in mobile containers and installing hydraulic pipework systems from large CHP units to enable the use of the heat source using thermal stores and Heat Exchangers.
