Engineered and managed the construction and implementation of a new production process in a new plant for a new company. The process involved a new procedure and technology for manufacturing optical lenses. Responsible for providing the primary technical support for this facility, including developing required FDA medical device validations, process documentation, and implementing all environmental and safety programs from startup to final Production levels. Made improvements in the process that increased yields by 60% over three years. Developed a polyolefin injection molding process that produced 4000 geometrically different gaskets and to develop the blended material from which the gaskets were molded. Developed and managed several different processes which consisted of producing polymer from monomer, and then, casting power plates using gaskets and glass mold assemblies filled with the polymer. Validated the process and each of the 4000 different products produced in compliance with FDA standards and in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Provided technical support and managed water systems for 135 different communities across Virginia. Designed and oversaw the construction of several new water systems including tanks, pumps, filtration systems and ground water wells. Prepared Health Department and Environmental Quality Department permit packages and implemented procedures to ensure compliance with permits.

NASA Langley Space Center- Designed facility, mechanical, and HVAC projects for NASA at Langley Research Center, Hampton Virginia.Allied Signal, Managed capital projects associated with the production of nylon plastic and fibers. Developed designed and implemented one million-dollars worth of capital improvements. Completed Projects involved with conveying and bulk storage of plastic pellets. Managed the replacement of a 120,000 square foot roof and several other facility projects. Started as a project engineer. (see below 1982 thru 1988)Managed a plant manufacturing engineering group including plant maintenance personnel and project engineers. Oversaw the efforts of 30 people and the annual capital budget.Developed capital appropriation projects and managed the capital expense program. Designed and managed the construction of bulk monomer storage and handling systems. Implemented an in house injection-molding department that produced plastic gaskets. Specified and purchased injection molding and plastic extrusion and reclaiming equipment.Identified safety code violations associated with the storage of organic peroxide and implemented a project to correct the problem.

Provided Piping and HVAC system design services to industrial clients.Established scope, schedule and costs and wrote reports detailing industrial ventilation and environmental requirements required under court order for a large industrial facility that had been cited for multiple violations by OSHA and State Environmental authorities. My work was used by Client Company officials and regulators to decide the fate of the facility. The facility was eventually shut down and is now a superfund site. This high profile issue was covered extensively by the media. I presented the report, as required of the client, to the Secretary of Virginia's department of Labor and industry.

Implemented projects for production of injection molded gaskets. Developed a process for reclaiming and reusing plastic gasket material generating annual savings of over $200,000. Instituted design enhancements in injection mold tooling.Coordinated the redesign of a large multiple cavity "family" tooling set.Designed prototype polyolefin plastic gaskets and tooling.. Specified and managed the design and fabrication of a class 100, 65-foot long, tunnel oven, and the clean rooms housing this operation.
