Having worked for Magnox at various sites and in various roles, I started working on my latest project in July 2018. During my career progression I have improved my levels of experience and understanding of the technicalities of the nuclear industry, contract management, earned value management as well as my soft skills. Starting in the industry within the projects controls function, I moved into project management in 2011 and have since supported and delivered all phases of a project lifecycle including, concept and detailed design, off site testing, on site installation on plant and equipment including significant civil enablers, commissioning and handover. My first project at Berkeley involved the retrieval of materials from an underground Vault on an accelerated timescale. My current responsibility is for the Pre-Conditioning Facility (PCF) at Hinkley Point A. The PCF is a key facility at Hinkley which will enable the significant quantities of wet wastes currently stored on site to be conditioned to enable them to be stored within the Interim Storage Facility, prior to final disposal at the geological disposal facility once constructed. The PCF is a technically challenging project, implementing some first of a kind technology within Magnox and challenging current norms. The other technical challenges include major contamination management issues, historical waste uncertainties, and environmental management. The project is also novel with Magnox operating as the integrator, and currently working with five contractors to design and implement various aspects of the plant, and building enablers so strong and disciplined contract management is required.In addition, I am also the key contact for Magnox with an engineering and design consultancy which provides a significant number of specialist resources to Magnox to support project delivery. This includes management of the contract to ensure all resources are appropriately instructed and valuations are managed. This includes reviewing current resources and looking at any forecasted increase.
