I am currently a categorical general surgery resident at the Massachusetts General Hospital preparing for a career in academic pediatric surgery. At present, my full effort is devoted to research efforts in Allan Goldstein's laboratory, funded by an NIH F32 award. I previously earned my MD and PhD degrees at Vanderbilt University.My research interests are in the use of single cell analysis techniques to study differentiation and development of neural crest-derived cells and tissues. I enjoy applying and developing computational tools for analyzing the vast amounts of data these techniques generate. This work necessarily involves extensive collaboration with bioinformaticians, systems biologists, and computational experts. I believe applying novel, single cell analysis methods in combination with the traditional techniques of cell biology and biochemistry will allow scientists to answer important questions regarding the normal development of tissues and organs, and then to apply this knowledge to develop new therapies for childhood diseases. My efforts emphasize translating research discoveries into therapies that are relevant to pediatric patients, such a developing approaches to regenerate missing neurons in Hirschsprung disease.
