With over 20 years of small business ownership, I have been able to successfully transition my original company, Commercial Pallet, which manufactured pallets and wood packaging, into a warehousing, assembly and cottage products retail operation called Grandview Waterfront Products. My professional background is in manufacturing and process engineering, Toyota Production System implementation and product development with Canusa CPS and Algonquin Automotive. During the off season, I have been contracted as a Process Engineer for short term work assignments with Concept Packaging Group in Spartanburg, SC. Running a business successfully in cottage country requires multiple different skills. At the height of the season, there is never enough staff to satisfy the deluge of customer requests so the secret to survival is scheduling and execution. In the off season, it is vitally critical to control costs and incorporate alternate revenue streams. Success is to continually scale the business to profitably meet customer demand without making costly mistakes. Failure isn't an option.
