The Hawley family has been farming for hundreds of years, and for over 100 years in Wyoming. This new venture is a compliment to the traditional row farming techniques still used on the family farm. RH Farms can now add aquaponics to their list of items already grown. Aquaponics is a tested system of agriculture in which the waste produced by farmed fish or other aquatic animals supplies nutrients for plants grown hydroponically, which in turn purify the water. The plant waste is fed to the farmed fish much like the process that happens in nature. The process of aquaponics requires a lot of warm water. Because of this need of water, the business will be set up in Midwest Wyoming, a small community just north of Casper, Wyoming due the fact that the town of Midwest owns a free flowing geothermal well. The well is permitted at 450 gallons per minute and stays a constant temperature of at least 165 degrees F. With the “local food” movement in full swing citizens want to know where their food comes from and with shrimp demand far outpacing supply there is a great market for the end product.The deliverables are seafood with shrimp and tilapia being the cash crop. Other produce; fruits, flowers, vegetables, and herbs will and can also be grown year-a-round. With the natural heat from the water we can heat a greenhouse as well as the fish tanks to grow anything. Monthly or maybe even weekly (in the future) harvests of shrimp, tilapia and produce will be delivered to local markets.
