I have worked in the mortgage and insurance field since 1983 and it is here that I developed many of my systems for effective communication. Finances are stressful for most couples and families and a lack of understanding in this complex field creates high anxiety with people. It is argued by some that money is a primary cause of divorce.Empirically and statistically that isn't true. The inability to effectively communicate, create safe space, and reconcile differences takes the number spot for divorce and family stress. In other words, having the skills to dialogue without running away or getting angry seems to be paramount if one wants harmony in the family. This is also true in the workplace.So much of corporate training does not translate to the home. If I were to have applied the corporate training skills taught to me since 1983, my marriage might have been at risk. I saw a gap in corporate training during these years and so I started formulating my own paradigm in the late 1990s.In 2008 I started coaching couples on effective communication skills when dealing with finances. It was during this time frame that I realized my passion was coaching and teaching. I haven't looked back since.
