I started out on a fellowship from Oberlin College teaching English at Tunghai University in Taiwan, first studying Chinese at Yale. I went on to become Director of Academia Language Center in Harvard Square—with clients that included Delta Airlines, The Boston Globe, Tokyo Gas, the U. S. Navy, Polaroid, Gillette, Harvard University, and MIT. In 1999 I created Greengage—with clients such as Pepsico, Chrysler, Business Week, MetLife, Newsday, Suzuki, Better Homes and Gardens, National Semiconductor, and Texas Instruments. I was the film critic for ArtWeek in San Francisco and have written about movies for The Boston Globe and Maine Public Radio. I acted professionally in classic theater—Robert Lowell, Sophocles, William Saroyan, Tennessee Williams—in New York and San Francisco.
