About Richard Hunt

I have been a very successful Partnership Manager in my current role for Macmillan Cancer Support over the last ten years, working across the North West, with a variety of partners from all sectors to improve cancer services.I have very strong leadership skills and have been an integral part of the Macmillan management team for a number of years, involved with external senior leadership meetings across Greater Manchester and the North of England.I have developed a very strong network of contacts from a variety of organisations, from commissioning, senior executive level, clinicians and community leaders. My excellent relationships also ensure we have strong evidence, data and insight to support existing work and to develop strong bids, that are in line with my companies strategy and also align with our planned interventions, to deliver the agreed outcomes and the high levels of quality, to help enhance the lives of People Living with Cancer. I have led on a number of major projects including the service which we designed to provide 7 day provision of enhanced palliative care services. I was the key contact to all partners in setting up their projects to help support our timescale, ensure we could evaluate each appropriately, as well as managing the budget, risk management and the engagement of all the partners and interested parties involved. I organised regular steering groups and leadership meetings with key executives, clinicians and commissioning leads, to ensure that timely decisions were consistently made for the duration of the project. The service was successfully commissioned and continues to be successful and have made a huge difference to the lives of people requiring palliative and end of life care. I have worked on a number of large and smaller community projects that have worked to target specific communities, including a very successful LGBTQ+ project covering Greater Manchester, to address inequalities in health care faced by this community. I have also worked closely with ethnically diverse communities to increase cancer services, by developing volunteer programmes to support people in their own homes with day to day activities and befriending. I have been very fortunate to work across a diverse range of partners and communities, addressing the challenges that are faced and in many cases creating co-produced models with people to offer the best services possible, always aiming for a gold standard in everything I provide, with whatever budget I can allocate.

My job is to develop a service to ensure that people with cancer, through the provision of information, advice and support, have the help they need to return to the workplace and the normality this brings. Our level of support ranges from simple intervention and empowering a patient to self manage their own situation with the correct information and guidance right through to more complex case management. My role involves a lot of education/presentations aimed at health professionals to stress the importance or work to a patients welfare and recovery and make sure it is developed as part of a patients care plan. We also help them recognise the importance of early intervention so we can plan and manage their return to work during their treatment and recovery. We have set up initiatives, like the work we have established with the Young Oncology Unit at the hospital, where we offer careers/education advice to 16-24 year olds of whom their early careers have been halted due to a cancer diagnosis.
