I am a recent Queen’s University Mechanical Engineering graduate seeking my first professional role in the field. I have relevant experiences from both within and outside of the classroom that make me an excellent candidate. Through my two years as co-captain of the Queen’s Aero Design Team, I have developed strong leadership skills, including: team building, team time management, inter-team communication, and experience in prioritizing and delegating tasks in a project. Most importantly, I was able to hone my leadership abilities in order to recruit team members and manage a specialized and diverse group of student engineers all while managing a $30 000 budget.My time on the Aero Team, as well as my capstone work, has allowed me to develop CAD software skills, particularly with SolidWorks, giving me experience in prototyping and testing designs. During my undergraduate degree I also developed practical skills including use of: multiple CAD softwares (Solidworkds, SolidEdge), programming languages (C standard, Arduino, Matlab, and Python), 3D printing (Prusamaker), Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, and Powerpoint), and Google Ensuite. Through my involvement with all of these group endeavors, I have developed excellent presentation skills ranging from internal discussions amongst team members to presenting design solutions with faculty members and clients. Most significantly, I have developed my professional interpersonal skills with respect to; creating, strengthening, and working in teams with a diverse range of highly talented people. I have always found great reward in being part of a team that can make a meaningful contribution or innovation to a body of work or project task. Following graduation, I capitalized on an opportunity to move beyond professional leadership and teamwork, in order to test my own limits and strength of character, during a solo backpacking trip through Europe. While this experience was incredibly rewarding in terms of travel and culture, it also fortified my belief in essential professional skills from my time as an undergrad such as; resilience, grit, risk-taking, and failing forward. Very often, I found that I was able to make use of, and further hone, these personal traits as I worked through the challenges of my European journey. I see myself as an excellent entry-level candidate and I am willing to discuss potential career opportunities and relocation possibilities.
