At its' peak the centre ran 3500 trainees through residential courses in a single year. The role involved a combination of human resources, mental health and training outcomes functions, and provided recently enlisted soldiers with instruction in developing resilience and coping mechanisms for adaptively dealing with stress. Admin support responsibilities included maintaining, requesting and dispatching client files. Psych ExaminerAustralian Government Jan 2009 - Dec 2010Randwick, NswProviding mental health screening services and recommendations to manage a large and diverse dependency consisting of military members either deployed overseas or who had recently returned to Australia. The role primarily involved coordination and scheduling of one-on-one mental health screening interviews as well as conducting these interviews. In addition to assessing the coping mechanisms and risk factors offering advice and recommendations for the management of clients suffering adjustment difficulties. The ability to engage with individuals of a wide variety of ages and backgrounds was important, as were high standards of oral and written communication skills. Presentations on mental health strategy and conducting standardised testing were less frequent but equally important parts of the job. This particular job also required me to be available to rapidly travel to the locations where clients were screened as part of their return to Australia process. As a result the role required personnel who were able to effectively juggle their own commitments, budgeting, professional development and family relationships whilst still remaining focussed on the job, despite regularly being overseas. -
