Principal Product EngineerSemtech Sep 2013 - Jul 2015San DiegoI was a product engineer for a series of capacitance sensing SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) products targeted for laptops, tablets and cell phones. Responsibilities included new product development as well as sustaining for these high volume products with short life cycles. Process technology was mixed signal CMOS and package technology was Wafer Level Chipscale (WLCSP) using RDL and SAC ball drop technology on 400um and smaller pitches. -
Senior Staff Product EngineerEntropic Communications Jul 2008 - Jul 2013Product Engineer primarily working on Entropic's MoCA multi-chip-modules. These products included a mixed signal baseband IC and an RF transceiver. I helped develop their first MCM and then a follow on product with lower power and improved performance. Responsibilities included fab requests, assembly requests, helping develop the ATE solution, confirming ATE behavior in a system/bench environment, designing HTOL/HAST boards, running package & silicon quals, setting ATE limits, running GR&R, transferring ATE solution off-shore and production sustaining. -

I was the first product engineer and responsibilities were typical of a PE at an IC start up. Assist in chip debug, vector debug and test program development. Help define overall requirements for product release, author qual plans and char plans, work production test program limits and wrestle with design and marketing about the product datasheet. I put together a data analysis process using PERL scripts & excel, and then collected and processed ATE data for quals, char and initial production ramp.

Wrote Labview code for IMS test system to characterize ADC & DACs, microprobed and debugged silicon. The semicondouctor operations group of PCSI was purchased by Rockwell and my desk was moved down the street and into the Brooktree building which Rockwell had also just purchased.

Vlsi EngineerGeneral Instruments 1987 - 1995Initial responsibilities included procuring equipment and setting up a VLSI debug lab and then debugging silicon, vectors, characterizing new designs, bringing up ATE at sub-con and resolving production issues. During much of this period I was a one man show microprobing silicon and using some cleaver microprobe techniques to repair silicon. I wrote some vector conversion software, wrote an ATE test scripting language and wrote a spreadsheet driven characterization framework. Over time I started performing sustaining design tasks and eventually became a VLSI designer and design lead for a Verilog/Synopsys methodology.

Product Engineer IiiTrw Lsi Products 1984 - 1987Sustaining of bipolar and cmos multiplier and accumulator products, characterization of new designs, specified and debugged burn-in boards, I set up and ran silicon debug lab, studied hot electron effects, studied latchup structures, debugged new designs, used lab tester as second opinion tester to understand and resolve issues.
