Latest project: Working with Lloyds Pharmacy Online Doctor I organised and moderated research interviews with competitor customers to help evaluate the existing user journey for a key product. A fantastic opportunity to look deeply at a fledgling service, my role involved all aspects of improving and reimagining this complex offering through persona modelling, user journey mapping, site architecture and visual design. Initially I worked with the full team to look at their consumer-facing website. Building on my research with private patients, I was able to design a more contemporary product that delivered existing and potential content to users. On completion and launch, I moved directly onto redesigning the B2B service feeding the consumer site. This involved understanding an esoteric environment of medical data collection and processing, and satisfying the requirements of a very inconsistent user base, again building on my own user research and design.

Mostly specialising in fintech projects, my research skills offered insight into various products and services, including the design of challenger bank Atom’s new release, and assisting M&S bank in developing better user journeys. For a high-street bank, I ran regular research sessions to gain insight for potential new products, and in an extensive project involving a large amount of interviews, I was asked to create a thorough discovery document looking at travel behaviours for the Post Office Travel Money service.

For over three years I worked regularly as a consultant for Foolproof, gaining a good reputation within the agency for my skill at moderating interviews, and the quality of my analysis. Building positive relationships with clients helped me deliver insightful feedback over the duration of projects. I have interviewed hundreds of participants over this time, working on short sprints with discrete project goals, as well as broader discovery sessions, and iterative sprint cycles that looked to continually hone a product.My role included taking part in kick-off meetings to plan and present research focus, preparing discussion guides, and interviewing candidates with clients present. Reacting to feedback and giving context to findings during sessions, I prepared high-level and in-depth documents with executive summaries for broader consumption. Debriefing internal and external stakeholders face-to-face or via conference calls required a flexible appreciation of the broader project. A high level of professionalism was expected and given toward the clients and stakeholders.

Using insights from research sessions, and a crash course in the complex directory system from developers, I was able to propose a design for the platform with a focus on the key tasks for end users. I provided Sketch prototypes for the research team, and delivered a package of designs and recommendations for the FE developers and business team.

I was hired to develop a digital strategy to increase engagement of young people with the volunteer sector and help launch services to assist the management of volunteer roles. Jointly responsible in promoting Agile methods within the company and raising the importance of good research practice, I would champion user focus in creating lighter touch services for users with low engagement. A start-up style of work, I would exercise many of my skill sets including cross-channel UX design, research, content strategy and creation, and the generation of assets for fundraising and promotion within the sector.

Aiding the newly appointed Research Manager in the development of the internal research department, we were required to integrate research into Sainsbury's growing digital teams and champion user-lead design. I worked with Agile teams, organising, executing and reporting on research for internal and customer facing products. Our research included work with customers with specific accessibility requirements, looking at how existing design models could be improved and sustained. I attended research sessions in-store and at the labs of a third-party agency in the development of a major app and checkout release, ensuring adherence to the expectations of the product managers for a quality product.
