I've been working with companies to help improve the logic and presentation of their user experiences for 15 years now. I'd say what I've most enjoyed, and been proud of, is helping teams understand the environment they're putting their user in. My skill is in creating compelling and illuminating stories that explain how seemingly disparate elements all contribute to the user experience. My agnosticism to any specific framework has helped me talk to clients in the language they have created. I find out what makes their product unique, how users are perceiving it, and how improvements to journeys and UX content can add more value. I have enjoyed long and productive relationships as a contractor, where my voice has been respected and appreciated in complex projects. Getting to understand how engagement issues impact the volunteering sector, or how the psychology of patients affect their perception of data, or the difficulties of creating a smooth supermarket customer journey using inconsistent integrated touch-points, was achieved by a genuine enjoyment in understanding these sectors, asking the right questions and really listening to the answers.

User Experience ConsultantPrivate Healthcare Information Network (Phin) Jan 2020 - Jul 2023London, Greater London, GbA fantastic opportunity to look deeply at a fledgling service, my role involved all aspects of improving and reimagining this complex offering through persona modelling, user journey mapping, site architecture and visual design. Initially I worked with the full team to look at their consumer-facing website. Building on my research with private patients, I was able to design a more contemporary product that delivered existing and potential content to users. On completion and launch, I moved directly onto redesigning the B2B service feeding the consumer site. This involved understanding an esoteric environment of medical data collection and processing, and satisfying the requirements of a very inconsistent user base, again building on my own user research and design. -

Ux Research ConsultantFoolproof Jun 2016 - Dec 2019London, GbFor over three years I worked regularly as a consultant for Foolproof, gaining a good reputation within the agency for my skill at moderating interviews, and the quality of my analysis. Building positive relationships with clients helped me deliver insightful feedback over the duration of projects. I have interviewed hundreds of participants over this time, working on short sprints with discrete project goals, as well as broader discovery sessions, and iterative sprint cycles that looked to continually hone a product. My role included taking part in kick-off meetings to plan and present research focus, preparing discussion guides, and interviewing candidates with clients present. Reacting to feedback and giving context to findings during sessions, I prepared high-level and in-depth documents with executive summaries for broader consumption. Debriefing internal and external stakeholders face-to-face or via conference calls required a flexible appreciation of the broader project. A high level of professionalism was expected and given toward the clients and stakeholders. -
