Manufacturing Research EngineerCaterpillar Inc. Feb 2011 - Apr 2015Irving, Texas, Us•Developed and wrote gear machining simulation tools (MATLAB) for gear shaping and gear profile milling. Utilization of these tools led to a documented $2.5M in velocity/capacity improvements. •Utilized FEA based software (3rd Wave AdvantEdge) to help determine root cause of surface tearing issues on large (3 meter) double helical gears. Developed new industry unique tooling for use in the profile milling machines. This has eliminated the need to move parts between machines as well as reduced the overall manual tool changes by 50%. •Led technical corrective action management in Six Sigma project of suppliers overseeing Gage R&R, machining and heat treat test lots. This lead to annual savings from reduction in scrap of $250,000 per year.•Developed methodology to determine specific quality parameters on gears utilizing standard CMMs. It was generally accepted that purpose built gaging was required, but through a quick research and validation effort, it was shown to not be necessary. This project yielded an NPV of $2.5M with an initial investment of $75,000. This work has now led to a patent which is currently pending.•Led the initial cost estimation effort for a new product at an international facility. Once approved, I provided the technical guidance for the purchase of a 12 meter milling machine. •Led NPI assembly effort for a light weight transmission housing. This included leading the assembly technicians during the assembly of the transmission as well as documenting the process. -
