I am a sociologist of science technology and medicine working on the social and ethical implications of new technologies in the life sciences, particularly in relation to genomics and data science. I have a long-term commitment to developing an interdisciplinary program of work between the social and biological sciences. I lead a social science and ethics research team at Wellcome Connecting Science, part of the Wellcome Sanger Institute, and at the Kavli Centre for Ethics, Science, and the Public at the University of Cambridge. I also co-lead work on ethics, law and society within Cambridge Public Health and am an Associate Faculty member of the Cambridge Centre for AI in Medicine. My specific research interests are in the interface between science and the public around controversial scientific topics and the possible futures created by new science and technology. My current work focuses on public trust in health data collection and sharing, and emerging ethical questions associated with applications of AI in the life sciences and medicine. My research, drawing on qualitative, ethnographic and quantitative approaches, has been published widely in both social science and biomedical journals.
