Richard is a senior public affairs and communications professional, with more than 30 years’ experience in consultancy, government, and in-house. He has worked for more than two decades in Westminster and Whitehall, including six years as a special adviser to a senior Cabinet minister, together with 20 years’ experience in consultancy and public affairs.Currently, he is a senior leader in local government. At Camden council, he is cabinet member for finance, where he has strategic and political oversight of £1 billion revenue and capital budgets, and specific responsibilities for cost of living support, digital technology, data, customer services, human resources, benefits and licensing.He is also a non-executive board member of the London Pensions Fund Authority, where he provides governance oversight of this £7.7 billion, 97,000 member pension fund.In an unpaid capacity, he is a non-executive director and trustee of Electrical Safety First; a campaigning charity dedicated to reducing the number of injuries and deaths caused by electricity across the UK.He served as a special adviser to former Cabinet minister, John Reid in six Cabinet posts: health, transport, the Scotland and Northern Ireland Offices, Leader of the House of Commons and Party Chairman. There, he dealt with the strategic aspects of policy development and public services reform, as well as the day-to-day political and presentational impacts of government decision making. Richard also worked in Tony Blair's headquarters team during the 2001 and 2005 general elections. He was previously a political researcher for former MP, Brian Wilson during his time as Opposition Spokesman for transport, dealing with rail privatisation, Scottish political issues and devolution. Richard's experience as a consultancy director has given him a breadth of sectoral experience, including health, financial services, property development, retail, transport, energy and environment. He has also worked in-house for the Consumers’ Association and the Royal College of Nursing.
