I am an experienced senior leader in local government settings with a successful track record as a senior teacher and head of mathematics in secondary schools, Teacher Adviser and then Advisor for Mathematics, Corporate Director (Education) and Lead Director for Children and Young People in a large local authority in Wales, and, Lead Director for Regional Education over six Welsh local authorities. Examples of my ability to work with key organisations to help influence the nature of Education in Wales include1. During the 1990s influencing teaching and learning in mathematics especially with ACAC in relation to cross curriculum work. 2. I lead the Narrowing The Gap for secondary during the 2000. 3. As Association of Directors of Education (ADEW) lead in Wales, I lead the project to increase delegation levels to schools in Wales during the 1990s. During the last 3 years I worked with a small local authority in Wales on strategies to recover from special measures for Education Services and criticism from the Wales Audit Office. I am currently employed as Interim Director for Qualifications and Educational Support in WJEC/CBAC, the Examination Awarding Body for Wales>Taken together my experience is eclectic covering curriculum, assessment, significant change in a range of contexts.I am a confident people focused person able to think and work strategically and have experience from working in a range of different settings including schools, local authorities in Wales and with the Welsh Government and with their immediate partners such as the police, health, the voluntary sector and regulators such as Estyn. As well as providing leadership for Education in various contexts I apply my skills and knowledge to supporting change, coaching and mentoring, research and developments. My passion is personally continuing to learn and helping others to ensure that children and young people have the best opportunities to learn and be successful.
