About Richard Pohlman

My early career as a classroom teacher and outdoor educator exposed my passions for working with young people. After attending law school with hopes of becoming a litigator, I quickly pivoted to find a way to incorporate my passion for education with my professional training as a lawyer. Professionally, I have enjoyed the many challenges of leading operations and instruction at the school level, starting a new nonprofit aimed at helping students discover postsecondary pathways to success, and launching nearly $80M of new initiatives across DC as the Director of Race to the Top. I approach problems with a seasoned analytical eye and the experience of having implemented every aspect of an educational program including conceptual design, business planning, finding and securing funding, recruiting partners and participants, lesson development and delivery, and more. I know the importance of collaboration, people-first leadership, and the strength of building community. Mostly, I believe that all people can learn, grow, and have something positive to contribute to making our communities better for all and I'm trying to do my part.
