My name is Rich, and I love to solve technical problems.I didn’t dream of being a Software Engineer or know what it meant to work with computers growing up. I planned on being a teacher like my parents. The summer before my junior year of high school, I got a summer job that would forever change me, “assistant to the network administrator”, for the school. I spent the summer building and imaging faculty computers, installing printers and smart boards in classrooms, running and terminating CAT5 cables in a new dorm, basic networking, server, and user administration, and provide desktop support. To me, this was more than a job. It was the gateway to my career and ignited a passion for technology and solving problems. I am forever grateful for this opportunity. When summer ended, my curiosity continued growing, and I continued working on campus to support students while still expanding my scope from hardware and desktop support to software development and servers. Besides my normal schoolwork, I learned PHP, Javascript, HTLM, CSS, and SQL. I became enamored with creating something from nothing, taking words in an editor, and turning it into something tangible for all to interact with. This passion stayed with me throughout college and my professional career. Technology has changed, but so has my tool kit; I gave up PHP for Java, jQuery for React, physical and virtual servers for docker containers, but my passion has only strengthened. While I might not be a traditional teacher, I have spent many years mentoring and training. I have shared my knowledge and passion for development. Thinking of the outstanding teachers of my past it is the passion for the subject I remember the most. Maybe I am a teacher after all.Professional skills and interests include Java, Spring, React, Bootstrap, PostgreSQL, SQL, Docker, Kubernetes, and Linux.Personal interests and hobbies include hockey (Boston Bruins), skiing, cars/trucks, golf, fishing, and woodworking.
