Profile bio

About Richard Sequeira Ph.D.

Microbes are extraordinary creatures, you can't see them yet they influence every living process on this planet. I have been particularly fascinated by the world of medical bacteriology - what differentiates a 'good' from 'bad' bug when so often the bacteria exhibit both qualities? And how does our immune system recognise these friends or foes? I have thoroughly enjoyed the 10 years applying my skills in a variety of techniques to understanding these complex relationships.Currently with Imperial College I have been fortunate enough to examine how Bacteroidetes in the gastrointestinal microbiota prevent the pathogen Klebsiella pneumoniae from being able to colonise this site. With this we were able to publish in Nature Microbiology which came as the icing to an already enjoyable cake.My parents instilled in me an obsession in staying organised which has supported me immensely while I have moved around to work in New Zealand, Germany, the Philippines and now the United Kingdom. My greatest enjoyment has come from being in the company of my wonderfully entertaining and diverse colleagues while being proactive and hands on in the lab. Therefore my ultimate goal is to be able to remain active in the lab with a team passionate about the project they are working on.I am looking to achieve a career path that will allow me to achieve this goal to be in the lab so welcome anyone that would like to connect to discuss such possibilities. Or if you would just like to chat, feel free to connect and let us talk science!

Listed skills include Molecular Biology, Confocal Microscopy, Fluorescence Microscopy, Western Blotting, and 15 others.

This allowed for co-staining of receptors and inhibitors of various processes to be used in conjunction.• Used a variety of assays such as complement ELISAs, surface plasmon resonance substrate binding, Western blots examining label transfer protein interactions and chromatography of protein dimers to characterise the plausible functions of SSL11.• Independently designed and led my project
