As a Property Project Manager with The Salvation Army in Canada, my job is to work with the local Program Providers and Ministry Units on their construction projects to create facilities that are functional, safe, comfortable and inviting in order to provide the best quality of needed social services to the community. Averaging anywhere between 20-30 projects at any one time, I coordinate and oversee the design, construction, and renovation of various properties operated by The Salvation Army throughout Canada. I help develop projects, review designs with consultants, estimate project costs and budgets, consult with stakeholders, develop and oversee schedules and timelines, manage site planning, maintain relationships with contractors and vendors, and ensure all projects comply with TSA standards, policies and guidelines.After 20 years of Project Management and Team Leadership during a 35 year career in architecture, I was able to take time off to support the caregiving of a family member and pursue personal projects. I return to the industry with a renewed enthusiasm and perspective, excited to be part of an organization strives for inclusivity, respects diversity and provides a wide variety of community services including; food banks and feeding programs; shelter for people experiencing homelessness and support for those needing housing; rehabilitation for those struggling with addiction; long-term care and palliative care; Christmas assistance through food hampers and toys; after-school programs, camps, and school nutrition programs for children and youth; family support services; emergency disaster relief services, ministries and, of course, clothing and household goods recycling through the numerous thrift stores across the country.
