In 2019, the member optometrists of the IALVS performed over 3000 low vision evaluations, with 95% of those patients having macular degeneration. We conduct a low vision evaluation, not a medical evaluation, to determine how to keep the person independent and enjoy a quality of life. We prescribe telescope glasses, microscope glasses, prism glasses, filters, hand and stand magnifiers, electronic hand, stand and head borne devices and more.
