    Research Techniques:Developed the ischemia-reflow model in the rat which characterized the snare loop occlusion of the left coronary artery. By using the rat, this technique resulted in lowered costs and higher throughput with pharmaceutical interventions. Pioneered a technique for in vivo gene therapy transfer directly into the AV node. We have extended this knowledge to include the feasibility for a therapeutic role for cell transplantation and gene transfer in myocardial repair.Developed a chronic model in the rat to assess the effects of pharmaceuticals on left ventricular remodeling.Developed a closed-chest cell injection technique into mouse myocardium guided by high-resolution echocardiography. The use of this technique will allow more precise cellular implantation into the mouse/rat myocardium by accurately guiding injections to desired locations, confirming successful implantation of stem cells, in a clinically relevant time frame.Developed the first integrative physiologic model to reproducibly study Flow-mediated dilation in living rats. This approach demonstrates that the physiology of rodent vascular reactivity is concordant with that of humans, validating its use for the study of therapeutic modulators of vascular function.
