    Hmp Rye Hill (G4S) Jan 2012 - Dec 2014

I am the Deputy Director of HMP Rye Hill. HMP Rye Hill is a category 'B' training prison. We hold up to 625 sentenced adult male sex offenders. The Residential, Security, Safer Custody and Offender Activities functions report through me; as such any operational, strategic or legislation change affecting these areas is monitored and delivered through the four members of the senior management team who report to me. As a contracted (private sector) establishment, we deliver to a contract specified by the Ministry of Justice (National Offender Manager Service). I therefore maintain strong and appropriate links on a daily basis with the on-site controllers’ team to give assurance on issues of contract delivery. As an establishment, we work to a contract and detailed performance schedule which is subject to a high level of scrutiny both from the customer and our own organisation. My role requires a high level of engagement with all of our stakeholders, both internally and externally, which range from the Police and Crime Commissioner for Northants to a range of voluntary and third sector providers such as the Citizens Advice Bureau, the Samaritans and the Onley Park Residents Group on local matters. Internally, I have established a prison council where working alongside third sector organisation user voice. I oversee the line management of all of our subcontractors through their contracts and service level agreements. .I oversee any disciplinary procedures for the staff, ensuring that any incidents are investigated fairly and transparently and then working with our local HR team to ensure that any disciplinary outcome is measured and proportionate. My role involves travel to G4S sites in South Wales, Merseyside and the West Midlands to assist with investigations, grievance and disciplinary hearings, and the sharing of best practice from one site to another.
