Mr. Swerdlow is an experienced electrical engineer in telecommunications. He has a history of invention in the several areas of telecommunications within which he has worked, such as microwave radio, security systems, contract writing, bid writing and evaluation, network design, telecommunications infrastructure for buildings, and call centers. He has a strong interest in sustainability, and wishes to now participate in the evolution of the electric grid (sometimes called smart grid), bringing his inventive streak to help solve the engineering problems confronting the grid in the next several years. He believes his telecommunications work is directly applicable to many problems confronting the grid: security, large sensor networks, the use of public networks, use of a variety of media (fiber, wireless, microwave, satellite), and resilience. At Noblis, he led in using a new technique in contract writing – sample task orders - that is credited with being key to the project success, a multi-billion dollar contract. He was part of a team that won a commendation from the Department of Homeland Security for work on OneNet, a Department of Homeland Security network for transmission of sensitive but unclassified information.Prior to joining Noblis, he was a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Telephone Laboratories (now Lucent), where he worked on a system to protect carrier microwave communications systems from intercept; the project team earned a commendation from the Secretary of Defense.

The unique building design, the critical nature of the work taking place within it, and the architectural vision led to challenges of resilience and cabling design not found in standard office buildings. The design led to a successful implementation which is on track to support the expected communications requirements for at least this decade.Mr. Swerdlow was a participant or lead in several other telecommunications projects, including work in Call Centers.
