Richard Tatner is the Principle Consultant and Director of Blue Petrel Consulting Ltd.Richard trained in the UK as a Marine Mechanical Engineer working in the UK and Northern Europe as part of a rapid response maintenance and repair team on a fleet of coastal cargo vessels and shore-side facilities. In early 1990 he took a post with British Petroleum (BP), where he was seconded to one of the world largest spill response co-operatives based in Southampton. In 1994 he moved to Singapore as technical advisor for the development of a regional Tier 2 spill response centre, before returning to the UK and taking up the position of Response Manager.To date Richard has amassed more than twenty three years experience working predominantly in oil spill response and preparedness, but other areas have included; medivac, well control, gas release, bomb and security threats. In this time he has attended many of the major oil spill incidents around the world including more recently Deepwater Horizon. Richard is an active member of several oil industry regional response teams and technical expert rosters.Richard has managed and participated in hundreds of training courses and exercises around the world for industry and governments. Richard is on the International Maritime Organization (IMO) roster of approved trainers/ consultants, providing services on behalf of the IMO.Specialties: Oil spill incident management.Oil spill prepardness development.
