Leaving School in 1973 I joined the Royal Insurance in Silver St , Halifax as a trainee. Progressing through the very thorough Royal training I gained experience in all departments including , claims , personal lines, survey and commercial underwriting . Promoted to inspector covering the Calder Valley in 1978 . In 1982 I was invited to join Brian Smith and Dennis Mitchell as a partner of Salmo Insurance in Sowerby Bridge , R D Greenwood and Co in Hebden Bridge and Mayroyd insurance in King Cross Halifax . Following the retirement of Dennis and the loss of Brian I ran the business as a sole trader until 2007 . Following changes to the insurance broking market the business was purchased by Towergate Insurance and I joined the Towergate staff as an account executive .In 2014 I was approached by Eastwood and Partners in Huddersfield and I continue in that role enjoying a working environment in which the role of independent advice is valued and the requirements of my clients are the prime motivation .Outside work life is full revolving around family with my three adult children , their partners and of course my six wonderful grandkids My main interests outside the family are sport and in particular Rugby Union Football .I am chairman of the Old Brods RFC in Hipperholme and have been for over 14 years .
