Leading a team of 50 reporters and editors producing Nature's award-winning print, online and multimedia magazine output with a focus on growing its institutional audience in the Open Access era.

Responsibilities including oversight of New Scientist's book and bookazine businesses, special editorial projects and special issues of the weekly magazine, in print and digitally, as well as regular editorial contributions to the magazine and deputising for the editor-in-chief when absent

Overall responsibility for New Scientist feature content in print and online, managing a team of 9 editors and an annual freelance budget of ~£250k.

Commissioning and editing long-form material from freelance and in-house journalists on the latest developments and trends in science for New Scientist, a science magazine aimed at the general public, and developing graphical and online material to accompany them. Also writing features, and occasional book reviews and news reports.Keeping on top of trends in science by regularly reviewing the scientific literature, speaking with scientists and attending national and international conferences.Mentoring within the New Scientist features team.In the absence of the Chief Features Editor, managing the features team and determining the features content of the magazine.
