I consider myself extremely fortunate, as I've always managed to make a living from my hobbies and passions. When I left school, I worked for William Collins, the publishers, for seven years, in both the UK and New Zealand. What I learned there has served me well in my career as both a writer and publisher.In 1971, I bought a small bookshop, which I ran for a year. After that, I set up and ran a number of different small businesses: a book importing and distributing company, a printing business, a rubber stamp manufacturing business, and a motel. These gave me the necessary business skills to become a full-time entertainer, as a magician, mentalist, stage hypnotist, musician, and speaker. For most of the 1980s, I also worked as a ghost writer, and gradually started writing books under my own name. In the early 1990s, I also started writing and publishing books for magicians and mentalists, and now have more than 30 titles in my catalogue. My childhood dream was to make a living as a writer, and I've been able to do that since 1996. I now have 112 books published under my own name (and many more that have published under pen names, or the names of the people I ghost wrote for). My books have been translated into 30 languages.Writing became so time-consuming that I was forced to give up entertaining. However, I missed it, and in the last twelve months have started performing a comedy after-dinner entertainment for corporates called "Accidentally Psychic."
