iolight has patented a new type of portable microscope enabling for the first time high quality images to be taken outside of the lab with a pocket size microscope. Prototypes have been constructed and seed funding raised which is being used to fully develop the product. The company is now raising further funds to fund production of our first product which is due to be launched in March 2016.

At Oxford University, Richard undertook industrial research sponsored by Rolls Royce and Rover. Working closely with the Advanced Research Department of Rolls Royce, Richard personally designed, constructed and tested a prototype laser diagnostics system for measurements in jet engine combustors. This work included organising installation of the system at Rolls Royce’s jet engine test facility in Derby and running trials on an engine test bed, followed by reporting to Rolls Royce.
